Über die Anti-B-Mailingliste liefen ein paar Zitate aus dem Buch Julian Assange -Die Zerstörung von WikiLeaks? Anonymous... Info-Piraten versus Scientology, Pentagon und Finanzmafia von Gerd G. Rueger. Klingt auch nicht unbedingt so als würde man darin Neues lesen, aber immerhin hört es sich allein von den Überschriften her schonmal weitaus interessanter an als die restlichen Schinken zu Wikileaks. WebDAV, Windows 7 and Self-Signed Certificates Howto

WebDAV is a nice protocol. Unfortunately, the Windows implementations of it are amongst the crappiest pieces of software ever written. I thought it was better on Windows 7, but it still sucks. Here's how you can make it work at least for read access with HTTPS and self-signed certficates.

Always up SSH SOCKS Proxy on Windows

For additional security, I use SSH tunneling to one of my servers and dynamic port forwarding for some of my applications. This post explains how to use Putty to have a tunnel/SOCKS proxy that is created automatically on startup, and reconnects when disconnected, without any annoying windows open.

Motivation

Internet – Fluch oder Segen für die Medienindustrie?

Die Diskussion um die Vergütung von Medieninhalten im Internet ist geprägt durch eine starke Polarisierung. Die Industrie fordert strengere Gesetze, Leistungsschutzrechte für Presseverleger, eine Verlängerung des Urheberrechts, und droht damit, ihre Inhalte in Zukunft auch online nur noch gegen Entgelt zu veröffentlichen. Die Forderungen der Netzaktivisten hingegen stehen dem diametral entgegen. Die Verschärfung von Gesetzen führte in mehreren Ländern Europas zur Gründung von „Piratenparteien“, deren Forderungen das genaue Gegenteil darstellen: eine weniger starke Verfolgung von Urheberrechtsverletzungen, ein Verbot von Kopierschutzmaßnahmen, kürzere Laufzeiten des Urheberrechts bis hin zur vollständigen Beschränkung auf kommerzielle Zwecke – und somit die Freigabe aller bislang geschützten Inhalte für private Zwecke. Um die Entwicklung der Netzkultur und die damit verbundene Wandlung des Verständnisses von Massenmedien, Medienproduktion und Finanzierung von Inhalten zu verstehen, muss man zunächst die Entstehungsgeschichte des Internets und die technischen Grundlagen betrachten.

My Favorite Portable Virus Removal Tools

I was just asked for my favorite free portable anti-virus solutions. In general, nowaways, you will most likely have to reinstall because most malware digs too deep into your system to be removed again. The first thing you need to do is THINK about the source of your infection. In 99% of all cases is YOUR fault if you get infected, and you will get infected AGAIN if you don't learn.
With that warning in mind, if you know what you did wrong, and if you still want to run anti-virus software, I recommend MWAV (mirror) and Spyware S&D. Boot a clean OS from CD, eg. Hiren.

Nachdenken über das Internet

In den Diskussionen um Vorratsdatenspeicherung, Internetzensur, Urheberrecht und so weiter vermisse ich eine grundsätzliche Rückbesinnung auf die Grundlagen des Internets. Gerade heutzutage, wo eigentlich jeder "das Internet" nutzt, scheint das Wissen nur noch bei denen zu existieren, die noch auf der technischen Ebene arbeiten. Um aber zu verstehen, wieso gerade die technische Ebene eine so elementare Grundlage ist, muss man ein klein wenig ausholen.
