By using a replacement for the default system logger, syslog-ng, you can selectively stop IPs from being written to log files, for example on a mail server.

I am currently playing with the thought of shredding files automatically before they are unlinked from the file system (for example on a mail server). I wrote a small library that you can inject into processes using LD_PRELOAD, so all unlink operations result in a call to shred for (A) regular files that (B) have only one hard link left.

For additional security, I use SSH tunneling to one of my servers and dynamic port forwarding for some of my applications. This post explains how to use Putty to have a tunnel/SOCKS proxy that is created automatically on startup, and reconnects when disconnected, without any annoying windows open.

QUOTE: LUKS is the standard for Linux hard disk encryption. By providing a standard on-disk-format, it not only facilitates compatibility among distributions, but also provides secure management of multiple user passwords.
Building off the work from other great sources, the Guardian Project hack team decided to take a crack at porting LUKS to Android recently, with the goal of creating a proof of concept build process that can be easily adapted to future projects.

QUOTE: I received 80 pages of various printouts from Facebook from a group called the IIF, which seemed to be a part of the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit – Joint Intelligence Group. Their main concerns were my travel plans for 2008 and 2009, which involved going to the Chaos Communications Congress, and Hacking at Random. [...] The documents make numerous references to the fact that I’m technically savvy, and that I go to Hacker Cons. In fact, when the paperwork isn’t reading “ZOMG ANARCHISTS”, it’s reading “ZOMG SCARY HAXOR”. This seems to come from my Twitter feed, where I post about technology while I’m slacking off.

I wrote a small Python script to visualize Tor relays on Google Maps and Google Earth. You can see the result here:
The markers might give a false impression of accuracy. Most IPs can only be tracked to city level (or even region), ie. the markers are somewhat near, not necessarily at the real location of the relay.

Spätestens die Sache um Wikileaks, Julian Assange und dem mutmaßlichen Informanten Bradley Manning sollte doch eigentlich zu einer breiteren Erkenntnis führen.

Note to self: Don't forget to set configuration option PidFile in torrc when you run multiple instances of Tor.

UKash, one of the few prepaid voucher companies in Europe ("privacy aware payment"), is now also the first legal vendor of virtual credit cards in Europe: Apparently you can buy prepaid vouchers and turn them into a 3-month virtual Mastercard (no physical card is issued, card number is delivered by email, CVV2 by SMS). http://www.ukashneo.com/
